火曜日のチゲ鍋の時にマイミクのチョリがふと教えてくれた情報。Gilroy の Prime Outlet は Black Friday（Thanksgiving day の翌日の金曜日。歴史的に小売業のバランスシートが黒字になる日の為そういう名前がついた）深夜に開店し、ものすごい人数のお客が来るらしい。
「え、深夜からショッピング？アメリカ人てそんなに狂ってたっけ？」
今イチ信じられないが、ちょっとその様子を想像したらみに行きたくなってきた。だって何かバカにするのは先ず自分が経験してからって言うし。
ってなわけでまるっきしやる気のない奥さんを連れて１時間のドライブへ。夜の１１頃に到着したら、既にハイウェイの方にまでトラフィックが出来てる。おいおい、マジかよ？と思いながらとりあえず乗り込んでみると本当に人がいる。いっぱい居るよ！
Coach Outlet のラインが特にすごかった。日本でいう所の PS3 の発売日を想像してもらえればいいかと思います。スタバのスタンドの前にも３０人ぐらいは並んでいたかも。とても並ぶ気がしなかった。
昔日本人は行列大好きと言われた気がするが、アメリカ人も全然負けてねぇな、と再確認しました。恐らくウチらが住んでいる場所が特異な部分もあると思うし、Gilroy に居た人の半数近くはアジア人だった気もするが、アメリカ人の購買パターンもだいぶ変わってきたのかな？と思うそんなイベントでした。

Last night, I went to jam with my startup buddies up in the city.
I got a couple of new pedals recently but haven’t had a chance to crank them up on the Marshall, so this was a great opportunity to get some volume 11 love… well, actually more like 4, but that was loud enough!!
I gotta say my new Ibanez combined with the Blues Drive pedal, a bit of Digital Delay and topped out with bit of Compression/Sustainer going into the clean channel on the Marshall VS100 is a superb combination! I could noodle all day long.
Russ had some awesome beats and Sam came up with a couple of good lines. Kurtiss is pretty solid too!
Mmmm….. I need this more often!!!

今日試しに Firmware を 1.1.2 にアップデートしてみたところ、どうやら Apple さん Keyboard のリストを管理する事にしたらしく、アメリカ英語とヨーロッパの数カ国のキーボードしかリストされていないこと発覚。おたく心をおもいっきりくすぐられまして、1.1.2 版の日本語キーボードアンロックしてやるぅ！と朝の４時まで起きて方法探してみました。それで見つけたのがこの方法。（でも朝になって後の他のサイトでキーとなるヒントを見つけ、２時間ほど無駄にしたこと発覚 orz）
（jailbreak された iPhone w/ Firmware 1.1.2 を持っていること前提）
- iPhone の ssh をオンにする。
- scp で以下のファイルをマックにコピー： /private/var/root/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist
- 念の為にオリジナルの .GlobalPreferences.plist をバックアップコピーする。
- このファイルを Property List Editor で開く
- AppleKeyboards グループ を開く
- デフォルト状態だと、AppleKeyboards の中身は「0」というエントリーの Value が「en_US」になっています。このグループ内に新しい sibling を追加。タイトルが「１」である事を確認したら、Value を「ja」にして、保存。
- scp で新しく保存された .GlobalPreferences.plist を iPhone の元のロケーションにアップロード。
- 再起動再起動が終わったら、Note アプリなどを立ち上げてキーボードを試してみてください。僕の場合きちんと日本語キーボードにスイッチできました。
注意：このハックをしたあとは、Keyboard/International 設定ページには行かないように！ iPhone は .GlobalPreferences.plist を自己修復してしまうらしく、設定ページに行った後は日本語キーボードが使えなくなりました。
ちなみに iPhone のファームウェアバージョン 1.1.1 ではこちらに書いてあるようなハックで日本語キーボードをアンロックできました。

退職して数日。なんかおっきな事をやりたくてうずうずしている自分がいます。でも今年いっぱいはあまり難しい事をせずに、とりあえずはリラックスしながら友達と遊んだり、旅行できればな〜なんて思ってます。
とはいえ、一日中プレステしてるのもあまりに不健康なので、少しは規則のある生活を歩むべし。そんなわけでこの休みを機会に生活に取り入れたい事をリストアップしてみる事に。
- 音楽 – 出来れば一人ではなく他人と一緒に音楽を作る事を学んでみたい
- 運動 – ３０になって、少し腹が気になってきたので、冬でも出来そうな Wii 以外のスポーツを取り入れてみたい
- 写真 – DSLR 手に入れてから、かれこれ一年ちょっと。奇麗で特徴のある写真を撮る理屈は分かってきたので、次はもう少しクリエイティブな写真ベースのアートを作ってみたい！
- 料理 – っていうかグリルで出来ることを中心に少しレパートリーを増やしていきたいですね〜。チキンやステーキはだんだんと慣れてきて、先日は手の込んだハンバーガー作ってみたりしました。次はポークかなぁ？
- コネ作り – 今までエンジニアだったウチはあんまり気にしなくてよかったけど、もっと世間の為になる仕事するには先ずはコネが第一！

When I first heard about OLPC, I was excited about the fact that people are now able to build a laptop for mere $100. Of course this is far from ideal. These laptops are produced without much profit margin, and the spec sucks. Most people who are used to using the regular computer could not stand using a computer this slow.
But I knew more usable laptop would come that costs less and runs reasonably fast. I thought it would eventually come down to a point where any reasonable income family can buy one for each family member and not worry about insuring them, because the darn thing is so cheap.
Still, I expected it to take a little longer… then in the last few weeks, I started hearing about this. Although the price as originally speculated was $200 and in reality an ASUS Eee PC costs $399 (street price). I agree with most reviews that this would make a perfect system for kids and elders.
The machine is no match for a bigger laptops like MacBook in terms of feature set and the horsepower, but it has a few things going for it.
- This thing is ultrlight!!
- It is the cheapest laptop in its class
- 4GB SDD Hard Drive + Intel Mobile CPU + Intel GMA Graphics = low power consumption & low heat generation
- The machine is fast enough for web browsing and emailing (which is what most people do on their laptops)
I remember the days when laptops costed way more than desktops, and when it made sense to get a desktop purely from the performance stand point. These days many people choose a laptop over a desktop because they are reasonably priced, quieter, energy efficient, and plenty fast for most folks. Now, we have a laptop that costs as much as an iPhone and able to satisfy most people’s needs. This is truly remarkable!!
