Favorite Firefox add-ons

April 9th, 2008 ryos

These days I can’t live without Firefox. The reason is obviously all the extra features I get from Firefox. Here is the my list of top Firefox add-ons.

* I currently use Firefox 2. Firefox 3 is going release soon and it may render some of those add-ons obsolete.

  1. googlepedia – this tiny add-on turns your google result page into a hybrid google/wikipedia page.
  2. Web Developer – this is a genius solution that makes every web developer’s life 100 times easier.
  3. S3Fox – Since there is no easy way to mount Amazon S3 storage as a network volume on a Mac, (and I’m still waiting an elegant solution. s3fs kinda works, but not quite) this add-on is the best way to manage files on my S3 storage right now.
  4. Skydeck (private beta) – Skydeck is an up and coming webapp that allows you to consolidate, manage, and analyze your cellphone bills in interesting ways. Without going into details, this site provides a Firefox toolbar that lets you see the remaining minutes and free SMS count. Very convenient for a budget conscious guy like me. If you are interested, ping me and I can send you an invite to the site (while my invites last).
  5. gDocsBar – I am finally giving into the idea that Google owning my documents and spreadsheets ain’t so bad. gDocsBar adds a couple of little ways to access my google documents page easily.
  6. Facebook Bar – This neat little toolbar shows you easy way to update your status, notifications as icons, friends’ status updates in the sidebar (optional) and also keeps track of your logins so you don’t have to login each time. I like the fact that I don’t have to go to my facebook home to see what’s going on in my facebook land.
  7. PicLens – I don’t use this as much, but when I do use it it blows me away to see the beautiful interface. It can’t be described, but if you are a heavy web photo album user this is a must have for sure.
  8. Xoopit for Gmail (private beta) – This is an another currently private beta service (ping me if you are interested in getting an invite). The idea of xoopit is you provide them with your gmail login (I understand your concerns about the privacy issues, but let’s set that aside) and they scrape your gmail emails and find media assets/attachments embedded inside, then present you with the gallery interface. Recommended if you are a gmail web interface fan.
  9. Fasterfox – Most of you heavy Firefox users already know this add-on. It allows you make performance tweaks to Firefox so pages load faster. Comes with a little footer bar status showing you how fast the current page loaded.
  10. zotero – I don’t use this application as often as I should, but for people who do internet based researches who need to do annotation, this add-on pretty much replaces EndNote and blows away del.icio.us or any other bookmarking sites IMHO.

How about Firebug & IE View?

Firebug is a good one! IE View only works on Windows so I don’t have much use for it…
