久しぶりのポストどす。ここの所忙しすぎ。っていうか先週は月曜日からものすごいコンサート聴きに行っちゃったものだからその後一週間骨抜き状態。そのコンサートがこれ。
Extreme といえば More Than Words で One Hit Wonder となったバンド。（しかもあの曲弾いてるのはバンドのメンバーの半分だけ）頑張ってギターで練習して彼女の心を射止めようとした諸君も多いのではないだろうか？
でも連中実はただのバラードバンドじゃない。ってか凄いバンド。なにがすごいってスタイルのバラエティが豊富。恐らくギタリストの Nuno のお陰な部分が大きいんじゃないかと思います。
さて、８０年代後半から９０年代前半に活躍してその後はずっと下火だった Extreme ですが、最近新しくアルバムを出し現在ツアー中。３ヶ月くらい前にマイミク龍くんに誘われてた The Fillmore でのショーを観にいきました。
King’s X が前座のこのコンサート。彼等の事を知っている人たち少ないけど、僕の中では彼等もヒーロー。５年ほど前に会社のおっちゃんに教えてもらってから虜になっとります。
両バンドとも今回観るのは始めて。結構興奮して龍くん＆ケイくんと一緒に襲撃。
ちょっとコンサート開始時間に遅れて到着しましたが、まだ始まっていないので３人でホッとしてました。会話のトピックは根っきり「Nuno って歳とっちゃったけどまだソロ弾けんのかよ？？」
そして会場が暗くなり King’s X が登場。Doug はちょっと風邪ひいているっぽい感じ。おっとっと。でもそこはさすがプロだな〜。魂込めてちゃんと歌いきるあたりはカッコよすぎ。Ty は相変わらず格好がいけてないけど、流石のパワーで多種エフェクトをこなしつつハードなショーを見せてくれました。しかも King’s X 前座なのに１時間ちょっとのフルセットやってくれました。自分的には満足♪
そして待ちに待った Extreme。そこから２時間ちょっと魅せてくれましたよ。４０代中盤のおっさんとは思えない Nuno のギターのスピード（うちら３人とも弾けんのかよ？などと失礼な心配をしてしまいました）と Gary のロックシンガーらしさにポーっとしてしまいました。俺が女だったら絶対連中のおっかけやる。あんなオッサンになりたい。・・・っていうか、彼等の体格は３０代の運動選手顔負け。流石一流ロックスターはひと味違うと思いましたよ。（ベースのおっちゃんはデブっちゃったけどね・・・。）
各メンバーのパフォーマンスもすげぇけど、バンドとしてのシンク度の高さも並大抵のものではない。あのレベルまでいくとドラムとベースのリズム感がいいだけじゃだめ。ボーカル＆ギターもバンド共通のメトロノーム内蔵してる感じしました。その辺はプロだなぁと思う。（先日メタ切りにした Glay もさすがはプロだけあってこの辺だけはしっかりしてるけど、Extreme の比じゃない。）
今まで色々なバンドを観てきましたが、Extreme のコンサートはバラエティ（音楽のスタイル＝ファンク／ポップ／ロック／ブルース／カントリー／ｅｔｃ）とバンドとしてのパフォーマンスの完成度という面から見るとレッチリ並み。自分の中では超ハイランク。（は〜いそこで「レッチリなんて sell out ポップスター」だなんて言っている人たち。そりゃ過去１０年のアルバムのレベルは今イチかもしれないけど、彼等のコンサートはきちんと一度観ておいた方がいいすよ。馬鹿にできない。）
追伸：美樹の研究所の友達が「What? Ryo is going to extreme and kinky sex!?!?」と勘違いしたアホ笑い話。

I recently purchased an Apple Wireless Keyboard. With it I have been actively using my living room Mac hooked up to my HDTV.
But I am noticing one annoyance with the experience of using living room computer; Reading text on the HDTV sucks.
There is something excruciating about reading webpage texts on my HDTV. No matter how much I blow up the text I just can’t do it.
So I proceeded to write a two-liner (literally) AppleScript applet that solves the problem by executing Mac OS X’s built-in speech synthesis against the text on the clipboard. For the record, I am sure someone else’s already done this in a more elegant manner. Those didn’t make it easy for me to find the solution, so I proceeded to write my own.
Here’s the concept. Every Mac OS X comes with a speech synthesis engine which converts a text into an audio output and basically reads it to you. Many people are familiar with the concept but not many even know that such a service exists on their Macs. You can actually find this service under the application menu >> Services >> Speech >> Start Speaking Text. For instance, just highlight text in Safari, then select Start Speaking Text menu item. OS will convert the text into audio for you. But if you are like me, you don’t like to use the mouse and move through multilevels of submenus to get to this service. This is where the lightweight application with no UI comes in handy. You launch it and it reads the text on your clipboard. So whenever you see a text on a webpage or in a Word document, just go ahead and copy the text, then simply launch SayIt! and it will read the text out loud for you.
BTW, I highly recommend using Alex voice on Leopard…
今夜は San Francisco の The Fillmore という小さなコンサート場で Glay 観てきました。
昔は Glay のコピーバンドっぽいことも時々やってたし、常に Glay しか聴いてなかった時期もあったんですけどね。歳のせいなのかアメリカのロックに洗脳されてるせいかよく分かんないですがなんか Glay のステージ上のパフォーマンスとかナヨナヨした感じが・・・。俺だけっすか？流石に「口唇」とか「However」は盛り上がったけど、正直半分以上曲知らなかったし・・・orz
でもプロってすごいなぁと関心する事も多かったです。ＴＥＲＵの声は健在だし、HISASHI や JIRO もきっちり仕事はこなす。TAKURO が一番いい加減だった。結構ミスってたし。w
とりあえずロックコンサートとしては全然燃焼できなかったので次の King’s X+Extreme で燃え上がり、９月の Nine Inch Nails で燃え尽きようと思います。

Since iPhone 2.0 + iTunes 7.7 came out, people have been complaining about the new “Backup” feature which takes some sort of dump from the iPhone and stores for later in case the owner has to restore the iPhone. Well, most of us don’t need to backup on the daily basis, right?
I too got in on the iPhone 3G bandwagen earlier, but noticed the hour long process of syncing an iPhone with my iTunes to be EXTREMELY frustrating. That’s when I came across this article. Eeexceeeellent.
I tried and found the hack to be functional. But honestly, who wants to use a Terminal hack every time? So I developed Switch iPhone Backup State application. It’s a simple app. For technical inclined folks, this is a simple AppleScript application bundle. It allows you to turn on/off the Backup feature in iTunes.
*Warning* Please be sure to enable Backup every now and then and take a full backup of your iPhone. I won’t be held responsible if you blow months worth of data you accumulated in your iPhone.
